Ritual Writing with Magickal Objects

This box is a divine convergence of my background in writing & life as a poet + scent + hearthcraft + my passion for antique & vintage objects.

This curated box contains an array of second-hand objects that hold a history—a story—of the people who once held them. These items, weathered by time, display minor scratches, nicks, & cracks that act as a palimpsest of their former lives.

To me, those imperfections are where each object’s true splendor dwells. It is wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of aesthetics with a history rooted in traditional tea ceremonies—the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, & incomplete.

Who held these objects? What significance did they hold? Where did they reside in the house? Was this bell or vase or book given as a token of love or as a plea for forgiveness? What letters did this typewriter ribbon conjure or who did they write to most? What did the sender eventually hide inside the tin? Money? A stolen ring? A picture of their lover? And how did it get those scratches?

Through a guided writing ritual with prompts inspired by each object, you are invited to partake in a bit of psychometry (divination by touching an object), lampadomancy (divination by candle flame), & carromancy (divination by melting wax) to craft the beginning of a poem, story, painting, or song—whatever you feel inspired to create.

You can return to this ritual again & again for a new creative vision. The possibilities are endless. These objects have passed through many hands & now they are in yours.

Let them be your perpetual muse. Display them in your home. Use them to build an altar to creativity. Admire & enjoy their unique, flawed beauty. Use them to make magick.
